Noodle On In To Noodle Haus

Noodle Haus is on the edge of the existing food court at Westfield Carindale in the newly developed section of the Centre. The Centre’s strict guidelines for this tenancy included that the exhaust hood would need to be situated as high as possible and the walls to the hood be constructed out of frameless glass. Brisbane City Council’s Health Departmentalso had their very strict guidelines which needed to be adhered to. Working together with Brisbane City Council’s Health Department, consultant engineers, the Landlord and the Client we were able to satisfy everyone’s requirements. As there were no solid panels from the mall ceiling to the kiosk, an interesting aspect which the Landlord had to resolve was supplying power to the exhaust hood – the exhaust hood was placed on an electronic timer that would ensure that it was switched on during business operating hours.

Noodle Haus is the third project we have completed for the Client. We had previously designed their wildly successful Yum Cha Restaurant at Robina Town Centre, and their always busy in line Yum Cha Noodle Haus at The Hilton in Surfers Paradise. The kiosk uses natural earthy finishes: reconstituted stone and plywood, together with a muted metallic copper to the pylon sign. The lines throughout are kept simple and elegant. The beige coloured smooth stone finish contrasts against the textured stacked high grade plywood. The plywood consists of many thicknesses that protrude randomly and Chinese inspired clouds are painstakingly hand-routered out of the glued plywood panels. The result is very impressive and adds to the attention to detail.

Noodles with their fresh ingredients are easy and quick to prepare and provide a healthy alternative to many takeaway options available in shopping centre food court. The open cooking area allows customers to be able to see their noodle dish freshly prepared in front of them, adding theatre and spectacle rather than being discretely prepared behind the scenes. Noodle Haus has a winning formula of good food combined with simple elegant design which will make it easier to replicate as their business expands into new shopping centres and also instantly recognisable to customers.
