Crema Espresso at The Strand at Coolangatta breaks the rules of retail design to create a cafe dining experience fit for the magnificent 20 metre atrium it occupies. Traditional cafe kiosk designs have many restrictions which we were able to work with the shopping centre landlord to relax in order to make use of the height of the atrium space to create a subtropical indoor garden oasis for the cafe customers. Six metre high date palms create a canopy of lushness and privacy to enjoy a coffee and light meal. The pergolas with hanging baskets and plants adds to this garden feel. The kiosk also breaks past standard kiosk heights to ‘own’ the space rather than present as a kiosk in a soul-less open air cafeteria. Crema Espresso creates a strong focal point and unique cafe experience for shoppers in the centre.
